If you are wondering what is inside this article and how is it going to help you in business and in life, then let me answer that question for you right now.
This article is comprised of two different parts, but they work in conjunction with one another to help make your life better and easier to maneuver through. This article dives into how you can reverse engineer your life and why I highly recommend it for massive success. It also gives you an inside look at living a minimalist lifestyle and how this will benefit you in every aspect of what you do.
Most people that I talk with or interact with in some way have no idea what these two things are, but don’t worry because I am going to explain these in depth so that you know what they are, how they work, and how you can benefit from using them.
Reverse Engineering Ones Life:
Reverse engineering your life means you will look at the end result, such as your goals and then figure out how you will get there. What you will do is work from that end result backwards until you make it to where you are currently at. The key here is to include methods/tasks used by others who have done this successfully.
Example – This is going to be a very basic example, but you should get the idea. This isn’t an ultimate goal or anything, but it was something that my wife wanted, so I reversed engineered it to make it work. My wife wanted to show our kids the top of the Space Needle in Seattle, Washington. Instead of just taking our kids to the top of it and seeing it from the inside, I asked my pilot friend if he knew of any good helicopter tours that would show us the Space Needle from the air. Once he got me in contact with the owner of one of the tours I then worked backwards from there to find other fun things to do in order to make a day of it, plan which day it was going to happen, and then book the tour and activities.
A minimalistic lifestyle is simply where you get rid of everything that you don’t absolutely need to survive, live, and function. This could be as simple as not eating out anymore or eliminating some of your television channels so you don’t have as many options.
Example – What I did was I sold 3 cars that I had. By having 5 cars between my wife and I we were always trying to figure out which car we should take or which ones need child car seats in them for the week/day. By eliminating some of the cars it makes our lives much simpler, which is the ultimate goal with living a minimalistic lifestyle.
Before I get into how you can reverse engineer your life for massive success I first want to give you a little insight about my life, or more specific the turning point in my life.
I have always operated multiple businesses (mostly online) at the same time. It is because of my life choices that got me to where I am now, but I needed a way to achieve that next level of success. I am always looking for ways to improve and it wasn’t until early 2016 when I figured out the proper way of doing this.
This is when I learned how to reverse engineer my entire life.
Now, it is impossible to reverse engineer your entire life with a few simple steps, it will take some time and you must be willing to put in that time. Where most people make their first mistake when it comes to reverse engineering is they lump their entire life into one category or task. Life is not that simple, we have many moving parts, therefore you need to split those parts into separate tasks.
What I recommend is that you reverse engineer 7 aspects of your life. This could include finances, health, family, business, friends, hobbies, travel, religion, learning, and also things. The goal with choosing the 7 aspects of your life to reverse engineer is to prioritize these things over everything else.
I know what you are thinking, “How in the world am I supposed to only choose 7 things?” It is actually quite simple and I have a strategy for this.
Answer these questions as truthfully as you can. Take out a sheet of paper, write the answers in your phone, or try to remember them the best that you can. ‘
- If you only had 1 month left on Earth, what 2 things would you be sure to accomplish?
- You have 5 hours with nothing to do during your day. What will you fill that 5 hour block with?
- If you were given $1 million and were required to split it with one other person or group, who would you give it to and why do they need it?
- What was your number 1 new years resolution for 2017?
- If you asked your best friend or closest sibling what your number 1 goal is, what would they say?
Once you have the answers to these questions you should be able to figure out which category holds the highest priority in your life. Next, write down the other categories in which you feel are the most important to you right now. Don’t think about the future yet, just write down these for now.
In a minute you will need to write down 7 aspects of your life that are important to you, starting with what is the most important and going all the way down to number 7.
Let me show you what I am talking about in regards to my own life. The video below should give you a good understanding of what I am talking about and how you can implement this into your own life.
How I Reverse Engineer My Life As A Husband And Businessman – Video
So, do you see how both of those tasks needed to be separated from one another? If I lumped those two things together, then I would not be as productive or successful as I wanted to be.
How Do I Reverse Engineer My Life
Step 1: Start At The End
The very first step is to simply start at the end. What is your end goal? What is it that you really want out of life? This is where you need to start because starting from the end makes it much easier to figure out what steps you need to take in order to get to that point.
Step 2: Work Backwards Filling In The Previous Steps
By working backwards you will see the natural path that you are taking. This doesn’t happen when you start from the beginning.
Step 3: Keep Going Until You Are At Present Day
This is quite simple, keep adding in new steps until you are present day. If you want stop too soon, then you will have a gap in your plan and this can cause you to miss steps or complete go off track.
Step 4: Add Key Points & Methods To Each Step
Once you are almost done with reverse engineering your life you need to go back through each step and add in key points. The reason for doing this is so that you can be as clear as possible about what is going on in your life. Remember, be as clear as possible and provide as much detail as you can.
Step 5: Use And Make Adjustments As Needed
Lastly, make adjustments to each step as you go through life. I know this might not seem like a big deal especially if you have already gone through it, but it makes it nice when you can look back on what you did and make sure you are as efficient as possible going forward.
There you have it, that is how you will reverse engineer your life. Now, it is not as simple as just writing stuff down and hoping that things work out that way, there really is more to it than that. Below are some tips to help you achieve a greater level of success in everything you do by reverse engineering your life correctly.
Tips To Reverse Engineering Your Life
Start With Big Goals
The easiest thing to do is start with your big goals. By getting bigger goals out of the way you will make this entire process that much easier. Now, one thing I highly recommend is that you keep your big goals on their own plan, but also include them into your life plan as well.
Be Prepared To Make Changes
I can’t stress this enough, living life will require changes to any plan. If you are not prepared to make changes then you can almost guarantee yourself that you will not be as efficient as possible.
Reverse Engineer Every Aspect Of Your Life
This is so simple and you should do it for everything. I remember a time when I had my cousin reverse engineer her finances so that she could eventually buy a house. It doesn’t matter what it is that you are doing, reverse engineering everything will ensure that you are as efficient as humanly possible.
Get Friends And Family On A Similar Plan
I can’t stress this enough, having friends and family on a similar plan will make this process that much easier on you. Not only does this make it easier, it also helps keep you on track.
As you can see, it doesn’t take much to reverse engineer your life. The key with everything in life is to think long term, but act now. So many people wait around for things to happen, but the truth is that nothing will happen if you are not actively pushing your boundaries and accomplishing your short term goals.
So many people think that living a minimalist lifestyle means they can’t do anything, they can’t buy new clothes, they have to live on rice and beans for the rest of their life, and they can’t watch television or read books. I am here to tell you that all of that is pure crap. Being a minimalist doesn’t mean you can’t be happy and successful too.
Living a minimalist lifestyle is not about getting rid of everything that you want or care about, it is about living with less so that you can keep your mind clear and eliminate stress in your life.
Studies show that 63% of all people who have stress in their life attribute that stress to not having enough time in their day. Enough time for what you ask? Picking up their house because it is messy again, cleaning their dishes, washing their cars, taking their kids to after school activities, paying bills, watching their television shows, and making it to the gym. These are just some of the things that people worry about, but why?
The human mind is programmed to think a certain way, which in most times stresses us out. The key to living a minimalistic lifestyle is not to avoid any tasks, but to minimize the amount of tasks that you have to perform or do on a daily basis.
Let me give you an example of something that I did back in 2016.
As a homeowner it is my responsibility to mow the grass. I didn’t want to mow the grass anymore as it was taking time away from other things that were more important to me. I had a decision to make, do I sell the house and buy a condo, do I rip up all the grass and lay down rocks, or hire somebody to mow the grass for me each week? Simple, I hired somebody to mow the grass for me each week. Problem solved.
Living a minimalistic lifestyle will go back to what is important to you and how you reversed engineered your life. What you will find is that these two go hand in hand.
Now that you somewhat understand what a minimalistic lifestyle means, lets talk about why having a minimalistic lifestyle is better for everybody.
Why Is A Minimalist Lifestyle Better
Having a clear mind is essential to living a quality life. Why? Simply because you can see things before they happen. You can picture yourself getting certain tasks done. You can imagine what items you might need when you go on vacation. Having a clear mind is more important that you may ever know.
Yes, you will be more efficient in almost everything you do. Why? Because you have a clear mind, you know what needs to be done and you are focused, and best of all you want to actually get these things done. When you live a minimalist lifestyle you will notice that there are less things to do, and with less things to do you are able to complete more tasks throughout the day.
I know this for a fact because I do live a minimalist lifestyle and I have less stress now than ever before. What most people don’t realize is that having less stress in their lives doesn’t just effect their mood, mindset, and health, it effects the people around them as well. When you are not stressed out the people around you will seem happier, you will get more done, and you will be able to see things much clearer.
Stresses Priorities Over Projects
A smart man once told me that I have 3 options when it comes to getting something done. I can dump it, delegate it, or do it. Those are your 3 options, nothing else. What will you do? If it is not important to you, then it is not a priority and so you can simply dump it. If it is important to you, but isn’t worth your time (mowing my lawn) then you should delegate that task. If it is one of your most important priorities then you should just do it. This is why having a minimalist lifestyle is best in every situation.
The goal with living a truly minimalistic lifestyle is to declutter everything. With less “Stuff” in your way, on your mind, and around you, you will be able to focus on what is really important to you. Nobody can tell you what is important and what isn’t, all they can do is give you help and guidance along the way.
