Shiny Object Syndrome Is KILLING Your Business

Do you know what shiny object syndrome is? You might not, but I bet that it is killing your business.

So many people go through their day without a clear purpose and that is when shiny object syndrome really takes advantage of you.

Shiny Object Syndrome When something shiny distracts you from what you were originally doing.

What this means is that as an online entrepreneur we are constantly seeing how others are making money. What is working for other people. And how some people are living a live that most only dream about living.

All of this is what I call the shiny object syndrome. Why? Simply because when somebody shows you a new way to make money or what they are doing that seems to be working then we get distracted and want to do that. This is one thing that you can’t do. I say this because when you try to run 20 different businesses at one time you will most likely fail. You need to start with one and then move on from there.

How To Avoid Shiny Object Syndrome

Focus On Your Main Vehicle

What is your main vehicle? Most people have no clue what I am talking about here, so let me explain. Your main vehicle is the main way you make money. If you are doing 20 different things, then that is fine, but your main focus needs to be on that one thing that is bringing in the most amount of money. If you can spend more time on that and focus 100% there, then you should be able to make more money. With more money will come more opportunities, so you need to put emphasis on your determination to succeed with one thing.

Trust me, when you can focus on something for a long period of time the chances of that one thing getting accomplished are more than tripled.

Cut Out Distractions

What kinds of distractions do you have in your life? Does your phone constantly ring? Are people coming to your home or office at all hours of the day? Do you find that television holds your attention longer than it really should? All of these things are distractions. Figure out a way to cut out all distractions so that you can finally get more done.

I have found that shutting off my cell phone during the day helps me get about 200% more done. I also find that waking up before anybody else helps me get roughly 400% more stuff done. Why do these little things matter, because I am getting rid of all the things that keep my mind working on other tasks and fill that time with actionable tasks that contribute to my core business.

Say No

One of the hardest things people have to learn in life is the fact that they can’t do everything and they can’t please everyone. If you can learn those two things early on in life then you should be able to accomplish more. I say this because it wasn’t until I started telling people “No” that I was beginning to accomplish more. Try it, when people ask you for things or for you to use your time on their projects simply tell them “No”. Do this for 1 month and see how much more you get accomplished for your life and your business.

Hire A Team

The last thing that I want you to understand is that doing everything yourself can be difficult. What I do is I have a team of people that I rely on. These people are constantly doing work for me and the reason for this is because it gives me time to do something else. When you have a team of people that do your work you can take time to work on other projects that might mean more to you.

Something that I have done in the past is hire a person during very busy times of my life and I have that person organize my day. The sole purpose of doing this is that person knows what my end goals are, what I want to accomplish, and what my priorities are, so they plan my day around the most important aspects of it and then the least important parts of my life get the time that is left over at the end of the day. I know this sound a bit odd, but it really does work.

These are just some tips to help you avoid shiny object syndrome. What I have come to realize is that there is no way to 100% cut this out, but you can minimize it as much as humanly possible. Just remember, everything you do will have a consequence on your business, so keep shiny object syndrome at bay and you should do just fine.
